TikTok TAC Installations

For years, TikTok has been actively establishing Transparency and Accountability Centers (TAC) around the world. These centers give visitors an inside look at how TikTok moderates content, recommends videos, safeguards the platform, and protects user privacy. They also offer insight into the platform’s source code and the mechanics behind its algorithm. 

TikTok approached my team to design wall installations for two of these centers, one in Washington, D.C., and the other in Dublin. The goal was to create visually engaging environments that not only enhance the spaces, but also reflected the modern character of each neighborhood and celebrated the unique cultural identity of each city. 

Washington D.C.

Potomac River
 

The Washington, D.C. design blends modern visual elements with natural materials to create a vibrant and visually layered wall installation. Wooden slats and native greenery frame a flowing glass silhouette of the Potomac River, the major waterway that runs through the city. The textured glass mimics the appearance of moving water, enhanced by a gradient backdrop in TikTok’s signature pink and blue color palette.


Dublin:

Landmark Skyline
 

The installation in Dublin’s TAC brings the city’s vibrant culture to life through illustrations of its most iconic landmarks. The cityscape is rendered in a clean, linear style inspired by the TikTok TAC intro video. This video loops to the left of the installation, incorporating graphic elements like stars and clouds that echo the video’s visual language. The result is a cohesive visual experience that seamlessly ties the space to both its local roots and the TikTok brand.

My Role


I conducted research on each city to inform the design directions, developed and explored concepts through brainstorming sessions, and translated my ideas into mood boards and conceptual elevations. After directions were selected for each wall installation, I partnered closely with the TikTok teams in each city to refine the final designs and simultaneously collaborated with an external fabricator to bring both installations to life.
